Tech Tip: How to Check Alarm History Through the Event Buffer on your DSC Power Series PC1616, PC1832 & PC1864 Security Alarm Monitoring System

In today’s Tech Tip we’re going to how show you how to check alarm history through the event buffer on your DSC Power Series PC1616, PC1832 & PC1864 Security Alarm Monitoring System.

DSC PK5500 Full Message Security Alarm KeypadOften we get questions from clients with security alarm monitoring systems asking us how to check the alarm history and see when an alarm happened on their DSC Power Series security system or when their system has been armed or disarmed.  While we are happy to help any of our customers with this request, many people don’t know that this is something that they can check themselves on the LCD full message keypad attached to their security system. If your alarm system as a DSC Full-message LCD keypad attached to it (such as the one pictured in this blog post), you can use the “event buffer” to check the alarm history and see when an alarm happened or to check when the alarm system was armed and disarmed.  This can also assist in troubleshooting false alarm issues.  The steps below will allow you to walk through your DSC Power Series PC1616, PC1832 and PC1864 security alarm system and find the event buffer where you can check when an alarm happened on your system, or check when the alarm system was armed or disarmed:

Steps to View the Event Buffer on a DSC Power Series Security Alarm Monitoring System

Call your security company if you have any questions prior to proceeding

  • Press *6
  • Enter your Master Code (If you do not know your master code, please contact your security system provider)
  • Press * to enter event buffer viewing
  • The screen will display the event number, partition and time and date
  • Press * to toggle between the above thee items and the event details
  • Use the < and > keys to scroll through events in the event buffer
  • DSC Power Series Control panels keep 500 events in the event buffer
  • To Exit, press #
