Add or Remove New Users’ Access Codes on DSC Maxsys 4020

In these regular posts, we’ll walk you through “How-To’s” for equipment that we service, and questions that we are regularly asked from you, our customers.

commercial security alarm keypadToday, we’ll look at how to add and remove users’ access codes on a DSC Maxsys 4020 commercial security alarm monitoring panel.  This is applicable if you use your for your business or commercial security alarm system.  You may need to add or remove users access codes on the keypad on your system from time-to-time as people are hired into your business, as keyholders change, due to changes to cleaning or maintenance staff or many other reasons. Here are step-by-step instructions on how add or remove users’ Access Codes using the keypad on your DSC Maxsys Commercial security alarm panel:

Your Keypad will look like this:

Add an Access Code:

  • Press the ✱ button on your keypad, followed by 5
  • Enter your system’s master code (If you do not know your system’s master code, call FMC’s Service Department)
  • The Keypad will read Select (0) < >. Press 0 or .
  • The Keypad display will read: Code (0001) < >
  • Access Code 0001 is the system’s master code. Use the < or > key to scroll to the code you’d like to program, and press✱. This will bring up the Program Code Menu.
  • Use the < and > to scroll through the Program Code Menu.
  • Scroll to the first message “Select (0) Program Code”, and Press
  • The display will indicate “Enter Digits” followed by “AAAA.” This is the default setting for the access code. Enter a new four- or six digit code.
  • Press # to return to “Select (0) Program Code”
  • Use the < and > key to Scroll to the next Option, which is “Select (2) Edit User Name”. This can be used to enter the individual user’s names into the programming for the code.  Press (2) or .
  • The letters of the alphabet have been divided up among the 1 to 9 number keys on the keypad as follows:

[1] = A, B, C, 1 [2] = D, E, F, 2 [3] = G, H, I, 3 [4] = J, K, L, 4

[5] = M, N, O, 5 [6] = P, Q, R, 6 [7] = S, T, U, 7 [8] = V, W, X, 8

[9] = Y, Z, 9, 0 [0] = Space

  • For example, if you press the [4] key once, the letter “J” will appear above the cursor on the display. Press the [4] key again, the next letter “K” will appear, and so on. If a different number key is pressed, the cursor will automatically move to the right one space. To erase a character, use the < and > keys to move the cursor under the character, then press the [0] key.
  • Press the # Key to return to the “Select (2) Edit User Name” menu.
  • Use the < and > keys on the Maxsys Keypad to move to “Select (6) Edit Part. Mask” menu. This section allows you to program which partition on your Maxsys 4020 commercial alarm system the user will be able to arm and disarm.
  • Press 6 or . The display will read “Select Toggle < >.” Partition 1 will be displayed, followed by the letter “N.” This means that Partition 1 is not available for that code. Press ✱ to select Partition 1 (Y). The ✱ key will alternately enable (Y) and disable (N) the partition for the selected code.
  • Use the > key to scroll to the next partition on the system. Press to enable or disable the partition. Repeat this step for the rest of the partitions on the system until the desired partition access has been granted for the selected code.
  • Press # to exit.
  • You’re done!

Remove a User Code:

  • To delete all access code data from an existing code, perform the following:
  • Enter ✱, 5 followed by a Master code.
  • Locate the code and press Press to select.
  • Use the > key to scroll to the following display: Select (1) < > Erase Data
  • Press 1 or . All data pertaining to the access code, except the access code name, will be erased.

To delete the access code name from an existing code, perform the following:

  • Enter , 5 followed by a Master code.
  • Locate the code and Press to select.
  • Use > key to scroll to the to “Select (2) Edit User Name” and press .
  • The display will indicate the current name. Press .
  • The display will read “Select (0) Clear Display.” Press . The access code name will be erased.
  • Follow the instructions above to program a new label, or press # until you have exited access code programming.

*FMC recommends keeping a record of which people are assigned to each User Slot.
