APCO – Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International

APCO is an association of public-safety communications personnel with interests in the operation of 9-1-1 dispatch centres. Issues addressed by this group include hiring practices, staff training, retention and personnel policy issues, computer system operations, radio, telephone and any other issue that affects the operation of an emergency dispatch centre.

APCO Canada – Association of Public Safety Communications Officials Canada

APCO Canada is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of public safety communications. It serves the people who supply, install and operate the Emergency Communications Systems used around Canada from coast to coast.

CANASA – Canadian Security Association

CANASA is dedicated to promoting the safety and security of all Canadians and provides education and certification programs.

CFAA – Canadian Fire Alarm Association

The Canadian Fire Alarm Association certifies fire alarm technicians to be able to work on fire alarm systems. FMC’s technicians obtain this certificate.

CFSA – Canadian Fire Safety Association

The CFSA works to promote fire and life safety in the community.

CSAA – Central Station Alarm Association

CSAA is an association of alarm companies across North America with an interest in creating standards of practice for the operation of central stations including technical and operational.

NENA – National Emergency Number Association

NENA is an association of public-safety personnel with interests in the technical aspects of the operation of 9-1-1 dispatch centres. Issues addressed by NENA both nationally and locally include all areas of communication centre technology. Computer Aided Dispatch systems are the centre of an emergency dispatch centre but they are only as effective as the information being fed into the system. GIS, telephony, radio, VoIP, cellular and WiFi data are but a few of the issues addressed by this association.

NENA Ontario is a chapter of NENA in Ontario, Canada.

SIA – Security Industry Association

SIA is an association for parties interested in the secure and efficient transmission of security alarm data. This industry includes groups with interests in security systems, codes, standards and operations.

ULC – Underwriter’s Laboratories of Canada

The Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada is an independent not-for-profit product safety testing and certification organization. ULC tests products for public safety and are accredited by the Standards Council of Canada under the national standards system.
